Free Range Teens is thrilled to announce our first student-produced and directed full production, William Finn’s FALSETTOS.
Falsettos, a sung-through musical, is the story of a large, eccentric, and dysfunctional—but loving—Jewish family in New York at the end of the 1970s.

ELIGIBILITY
Auditions are open to students in grades seven to twelve. FALSETTOS contains mature content. Parents must approve of their student’s participation.

THIS PRODUCTION WILL OCCUR IN OUR NEW VENUE. REGISTRATION WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE WHEN DETAILS AND SCHEDULE ARE CONFIRMED. Performances are tentatively May 10 & 11.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
WHIZZER:
Vocal Range: E3-C5. Tenor.
Stylish, athletic, and confident. Has a turbulent relationship with MARVIN. Suffers from an unknown disease in Act 2. Male presenting.
MARVIN:
Vocal Range: C3-A#4/Bb4. High baritone.
Jewish. Ex-husband to TRINA, devoted father to JASON and is smart, funny, and charming. He struggles to reconcile his desire for a happy traditional family with his love for WHIZZER. Male Presenting.
TRINA:
Vocal Range: B3- E5. Soprano/Belt.
Jewish. Wife to MARVIN, Mother to JASON. Charmingly neurotic in her effort to understand her conflicting feelings in the aftermath of her divorce. She consults MENDEL, her husband’s psychiatrist, and eventually marries him. Female Presenting.
MENDEL:
Vocal Range: C3-B4. High baritone.
Jewish. MARVIN’s psychiatrist –marries TRINA and enters into the tumultuous world of her life with her son, her ex, and her ex’s lover while struggling with his own feelings. Male Presenting.
JASON:
Vocal Range: G3-D5. Tenor.
Jewish. MARVIN’s and TRINA’s son – bookish and awkward – Jason’s impending Bar Mitzvah, his parent’s divorce, and the entrance of WHIZZER into his life leave him confused, angry, and trying to sort it all out. Young Male Presenting.
CHARLOTTE:
Vocal Range: F3-F5. Mezzo-Soprano.
One of the ‘lesbians from next door’ – Charlotte is a dedicated doctor alarmed by the mysterious illness killing her gay male patients. Tough, but extremely nurturing, and in love with her partner, CORDELIA. Female Presenting.
CORDELIA:
Vocal Range: A3-E5. Mezzo-Soprano.
The other ‘lesbian from next door’ – Cordelia is CHARLOTTE’s partner – she runs her own kosher catering business, and is very keen on making a nice home– but also wants to be useful and valued for her contribution to the world. Female Presenting.
